Job Description
The Software Engineer II at Aurora will develop simulation engines and tools for autonomous vehicle systems, focusing on realistic actor behaviors, motion planning, mapping, and localization, using C and Python in a hands-on, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop simulation software using C 17 and Python following modern best practices
- Design and develop simulation and offline testing engines and tools
- Create and extend software for world entities, behavior modeling, pathfinding, and collision detection
- Contribute to engineering best practices on a large, complex codebase
- Tackle end-to-end simulation and behavior evaluation challenges across autonomy system components
Requirements
- Develop software in standard C (including modern C 11, 14, 17, 20) and Python, using modern best practices.
- Have good development skills in C, including modern C 11, 14, 17, 20.
- Understand common software performance issues and design tradeoffs.
- Possess a BS or higher degree in robotics, computer science, software development, mathematics, or a similar technical field of study, or have equivalent practical experience.
- Design and develop simulation engines and tools for offline testing, including software for world entities, adaptive behavior, pathfinding, road networks, computational mathematics, spatial queries, collision detection, vehicle control, and vehicle dynamics.
- Contribute to engineering best practices on a large and complex code base.
- Tackle end-to-end simulation and autonomy behavior evaluation challenges across various areas of the autonomy system, including motion planning, mapping, and localization.
- Create and extend software related to world entities, adaptive behavior, pathfinding, road networks, computational mathematics, spatial queries, collision detection, vehicle control, and vehicle dynamics.
- Possess industry experience designing and programming C software (desirable).
- Have knowledge of linear algebra, computational geometry, or numerical methods (desirable).
- Demonstrate a mindset for ownership, growth, and customer orientation.
- Be committed to safety and adhere to safety policies.
- Be willing to work in a hybrid work environment, with in-office presence at least 3 days per week.
