Job Description
The Senior Staff Safety Engineer, Product Safety Homologation at Aurora is responsible for ensuring autonomous trucking products meet safety and regulatory standards through strategy development, compliance management, and cross-functional collaboration to support global deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead homologation and compliance strategy for autonomous Class 8 trucks for U.S. and international deployment
- Monitor and interpret changes in regulatory frameworks to inform design and deployment decisions
- Manage compliance programs from requirement development to audit readiness and certification
- Conduct and support audits and investigations, ensuring corrective actions and continuous improvement
- Develop and maintain compliance reporting and archival systems for regulatory evidence
- Collaborate cross-functionally to embed safety and compliance into product lifecycle and deployment
- Represent Aurora with regulators, industry coalitions, and standards bodies to shape safety standards
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or related technical field
- 10 years in compliance, regulatory, or systems engineering roles
- Expert knowledge of automotive and autonomous vehicle regulatory codes and standards
- Direct experience with homologation, type approval, or certification of light-duty or commercial heavy-duty vehicles
- Proven experience with non-functional requirements, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning
- Exceptional communication skills able to convey complex regulatory concepts to engineers, legal counsel, executives, and external stakeholders
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and represent the company externally with regulators, standards bodies, or industry coalitions
