Job Description
The Senior Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers in developing and maintaining fleet management tools and API integrations for autonomous vehicle operations, focusing on scalable backend systems, real-time workflows, and strategic technical planning to support Aurora's autonomous mobility platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of 8-10 engineers in designing, implementing, and operating fleet management solutions and partner API integrations.
- Design complex systems from the ground up, including frontends and scalable cloud backend services for real-time and offline workflows.
- Drive the execution and delivery of high-quality, reliable engineering solutions that support commercial vehicle fleet operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Product Management, Design, Autonomy, and Operations to define and execute technical roadmaps.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, and end-to-end ownership within the team.
Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of industry experience in software development, including 5 years of direct experience as an Engineering Manager leading a team of 5 engineers, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale backend systems.
- Deep expertise in cloud backend development, including scalable web services, distributed systems, and modern API design.
- Experience with external customer facing software including production rollout with real customers.
- Proven experience managing and mentoring a team of engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career path development.
- Experience working with Product Management and UI/UX Design teams to define and deliver features that impact end users at scale.
- Phenomenal communication skills, with the capacity to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels, including writing effective technical specifications, providing feedback, translating technical concepts into lay terms, and incorporating feedback.
- Experience defining technical roadmaps and driving long-term strategic projects that span multiple engineering teams.
- Experience in designing complex systems from the ground up, partnering closely with software, hardware, and infrastructure engineering teams.
- Experience leading the design, implementation, and operation of solutions for Autonomous Vehicle Fleet Management and Partner API integrations.
- Experience with designing and building frontends and scalable cloud backend services that support real-time and offline workflows for commercial operations, fleet optimization, and autonomy improvement.
- Ability to manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of 8-10 engineers through regular 1-1s, performance reviews, and career development planning.
- Ability to drive the execution and delivery of robust, well-engineered solutions ensuring high standards of quality, reliability, and engineering practices.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or other time-sensitive operations (desirable).
- Experience with safety and mission-critical applications (desirable).
- Experience with fleet management solutions for Robots, Vehicles, or Aerial Drones (desirable).
- Experience in operations research or optimization algorithms (desirable).

Base salary range of $212,000 - $340,000 per year
