Job Description
A Senior Backend Software Engineer at Aurora is responsible for designing, developing, and scaling backend services and full-stack solutions that support autonomous vehicle fleet management and operations, contributing to the company's mission of advancing self-driving technology and mobility solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services for fleet management and terminal operations
- Build and maintain cloud-based systems to monitor and manage autonomous vehicle fleets
- Implement new features and enhance existing products for fleet and terminal operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, infrastructure, security, and product teams
- Ensure system scalability, high availability, and reliability of backend services
- Integrate real-time vehicle data to support safe and efficient autonomous fleet operations
- Contribute to team culture through mentorship, feedback, and collaboration
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5 or more years of industry experience in software engineering.
- Strong backend service engineering skills using modern technologies including Golang, Python, C, gRPC, Kubernetes, and AWS.
- Experience working with databases and caches such as Postgres and Redis.
- Experience designing complex systems from the ground up, working closely with software, hardware, and infrastructure engineering teams.
- Ability to build backend services running in AWS cloud used to monitor and manage the location and activity of an autonomous fleet.
- Ability to establish technology and infrastructure to scale products with high availability and reliability.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders including Security, Product, Design, Safety, and Cloud Platform teams.
- Experience sending suggestions and receiving updates from vehicles in real time to ensure safe operation of autonomous fleet.
- Experience contributing to and evolving team culture around mentorship, feedback, collaboration, and engineering excellence.

Compensation/salary range: 162,000 - 260,000 USD
