Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer will develop and optimize high-performance, real-time software for hardware-in-the-loop testing platforms that validate autonomous vehicles, focusing on system integration, automation, and cloud-based tooling to support Aurora's safety and autonomous driving initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop core Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) software and real-time interfaces for autonomous vehicle testing.
  • Build scalable tooling, APIs, and cloud integration frameworks to facilitate hardware testing and data analysis.
  • Lead technical design reviews to evaluate system architecture, communication protocols, and simulation fidelity.
  • Debug and optimize low-level system performance issues involving latency, jitter, and synchronization across hardware components.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, architectural guidance, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of professional software development experience building complex, low-latency systems or high-scale infrastructure products.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Modern C++ (C++14, C++17, C++20).
  • Deep understanding of memory management, multi-threading, and performance optimization.
  • Strong experience with Python or Golang for building automation pipelines, CLI tools, or data processing services.
  • Proven track record of developing software that interacts with physical devices, hardware peripherals, or complex networking protocols.
  • Expert knowledge of the Linux environment, including kernel-space and user-space communication, drivers, and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing cloud infrastructure and observability tools, with familiarity in cloud services such as AWS or GCP.
  • Experience with systems integration involving physical devices, hardware peripherals, or complex networking protocols.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems such as RTOS, FreeRTOS, QNX, or Linux real-time patches (PREEMPT_RT).
