Job Description
This position involves designing plumbing and fire protection systems for various building projects, preparing calculations and drawings, reviewing specifications and shop drawings, and collaborating with clients and project teams. The role may also include site visits, mentoring staff, and participating in project management activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building projects.
- Prepare calculations and production drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinklers, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Conduct site visits during construction to monitor project progress and compliance.
- Participate in or lead value engineering sessions with the architectural and engineering team.
- Interface with clients and project team members in meetings and communications.
- Research and respond to emergent issues related to project design and construction.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
- Experience in designing piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building design independently for smaller projects.
- Ability to prepare calculations using correct parameters with supervisory review.
- Ability to prepare production drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic to construction design phases.
- Ability to edit specifications relating to existing or new projects.
- Ability to specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience interfacing effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
- Willingness to independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
- Ability to participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
- Ability to conduct staff development activities, including mentoring and training presentations.
- Experience in directing activities of staff with less experience.
- Willingness to conduct field site visits during construction phase, including physically walking through the site independently.
- Willingness to perform overtime work and travel as required.
- Experience in using computer applications for engineering design programs, specifically Revit.
- Current CPD, PE in Mechanical or FPE in the United States preferred.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
