Job Description

This position involves leading survey teams, managing survey projects, and performing surveying tasks, while overseeing budgets, schedules, and client relationships within the land development and energy sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct survey technicians, staff surveyors, project surveyors, and field surveyors
  • Review work performed by survey staff for accuracy and quality
  • Prepare, schedule, and maintain survey project budgets and timelines
  • Organize and maintain survey project files and documentation
  • Conduct field surveying tasks as needed
  • Prepare legal descriptions, survey control sheets, boundary survey calculations, and lot geometry for subdivisions
  • Mentor and train office and field survey staff
  • Review completed legal descriptions and boundary survey calculations
  • Ensure project scope, budgets, and schedules are adhered to
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and participate in marketing and business development
  • Manage staff workload, monitor project progress, and ensure timely project completion
  • Approve staff timesheets and conduct staff reviews
  • Handle project billing, including additional services and unbilled time
  • Address and resolve project-related issues, including past due accounts and back charges

Requirements

  • 3-5 years related experience and or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Surveying or AutoCAD Drafting from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Valid driver s license.
  • Experience working in the Oil and Gas industry is preferred.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision while reviewing work done by others.
  • Ability to prepare, schedule, and maintain a project budget.
  • Ability to accurately prepare field work orders for field surveys.
  • Ability to accurately prepare legal descriptions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to accurately prepare survey control sheets with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to accurately prepare boundary survey calculations with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to accurately calculate lot geometry for subdivision plats.
  • Ability to mentor and train office and field surveyors.
  • Ability to review completed legal descriptions and boundary survey calculations accurately.
  • Ability to prepare and monitor project budgets and schedules, ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Ability to participate in marketing, sales, and business development efforts.
  • Ability to complete projects on time and within budgets.
  • Ability to monitor quality of plats, documents, and other deliverables.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with existing clients.
  • Ability to ensure that contracts are approved and signed by clients.
  • Ability to accurately bill for projects including additional services for out of scope items.
  • Ability to monitor and address unbilled time and resolve past due accounts receivable issues.
  • Ability to assist in resolving HR issues with direct reports.
  • Effective communication skills to keep supervisors informed and coordinate with other disciplines and sub-consultants.
  • Ability to develop and maintain survey standards for field and office work.
  • Experience managing staff and project workload to meet deadlines.
  • Experience reviewing and approving staff timesheets.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching staff and conducting annual staff reviews.
  • Ability to assist in resolving HR issues with direct reports.
  • Willingness to occasionally work in the field performing surveying tasks.
  • Ability to organize and maintain survey job files (electronic and/or paper).
  • Ability to prepare legal descriptions, survey control sheets, boundary survey calculations, and lot geometry calculations accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to participate in marketing, sales, and business development efforts.
  • Ability to ensure services are covered by contract scope and that proposal protocols are followed.
  • Ability to prepare proposals and monitor project schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with existing clients.
  • Ability to ensure contracts are approved and signed by clients.
  • Ability to ensure accurate billing and monitor unbilled time and past due accounts receivable.
  • Ability to monitor and resolve back charges immediately.
  • Ability to participate in marketing and business development for new clients.
