Job Description

The role involves leading field surveying activities, including various types of surveys such as topographic, boundary, and construction staking, while managing equipment, coordinating with team members, and ensuring project quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct instrument persons and complete houseline, topographic, tree, wetland, boundary, ALTA, control surveys, and construction staking services in the field.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of timesheets and project documentation.
  • Maintain and properly care for field survey equipment and vehicles.
  • Collect and record survey data, including reading information, field notes, and sketches.
  • Coordinate with clients, staff, and site superintendents to ensure project efficiency.
  • Mentor and train survey team members, including instrument persons, interns, engineers, and surveyors.
  • Review engineering plans for potential field issues and improve survey procedures and standards.
  • Perform construction calculations and create record drawings and as-constructed surveys using CAD software.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma and or Surveying Degree with 5-8 years minimum experience.
  • Valid driver s license is required.
  • Excellent oral and technical written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to direct instrument persons and other field surveyors is required.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines is required.
  • Available to work overtime as needed to complete projects is required.
  • Available to work in the field in all weather conditions is required.
  • Ability to make independent decisions within the general framework of projects is required.
  • Must be fluent in the English language.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting and carrying survey equipment instruments weighing up to 75 pounds over rough terrain, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, and using hands to finger, reach with hands and arms, or feel.
  • Must be able to work primarily outdoors at construction sites, landfills, and in traffic, often for extended periods in various terrains, climates, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to perform moderately strenuous tasks such as digging holes and pounding stakes with hand tools.
  • Must have the ability to see close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
