Job Description
The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading survey activities such as boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys, operating Trimble equipment, and ensuring accurate data collection and reporting, while managing safety and team development on various site projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform survey activities including leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, and profile and cross-section surveys
- Set up, adjust, and operate Trimble survey equipment such as total station, data collector, and GPS devices
- Measure distances, angles, and elevations for staking purposes
- Review and adjust survey field calculations as needed
- Locate or establish vertical and horizontal control points
- Measure utility points including curb, gutter, water, sewer, storm drain, and paving using Trimble equipment
- Prepare accurate field notes and complete as-built drawings
- Maintain work-issued vehicles, laptops, and survey equipment
- Read and interpret engineering plans
- Assist with crew member training, career planning, and professional development
Requirements
- Five (5) years of experience in a Survey Crew Chief role performing boundary, ALTA, As-built, and Construction Staking surveys.
- Ability to effectively communicate with contractors, inspectors, and team leaders.
- Experience with Trimble survey equipment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
- Ability to perform survey activities such as leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, and profile and cross-section surveys.
- Ability to set up, adjust, and operate Trimble survey equipment including total station, data collector, and GPS equipment.
- Ability to measure distances, angles, and elevations for staking purposes.
- Ability to review survey field calculations and adjust when needed.
- Ability to locate or establish vertical and horizontal control.
- Ability to utilize Trimble equipment to measure all utility points including curb and gutter, water sewer, storm drain, and paving.
- Ability to prepare accurate field notes and complete as-built drawings.
- Ability to follow safety protocols as per Atwell’s safety standards.
- Willingness to commute to and from sites daily in a company-provided truck.
- Physical ability to perform survey activities in various field conditions.
