Job Description
An Electrical Engineer at Atwell, LLC, designs and manages high-voltage power systems and renewable energy projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions in the power generation and distribution sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply electrical engineering principles to design high-voltage systems, substations, and renewable energy projects.
- Lead engineering tasks from project initiation to design package completion.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Prepare technical documentation including diagrams, studies, reports, and client deliverables.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, and ANSI.
- Support project managers with estimating, proposal writing, and client communication.
- Conduct electrical studies such as short circuit, load flow, grounding, and arc flash analysis.
- Develop relay settings and perform coordination studies.
- Interface with SCADA systems and vendors for equipment submittals.
- Travel occasionally for field walkdowns, client meetings, or construction support.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering ABET Accredited
- EIT or PE depending on level; Engineer I internship experience preferred; Engineer II-III EIT preferred or required; Engineer IV-V PE strongly preferred or required
- 5 to 10 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus in power systems, renewable energy, or substations
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Office, and at least one power system analysis software such as ETAP, CYMCAP, PSS E, SKM, ASPEN, PSCAD, or EMTP
- Ability to apply core electrical engineering principles to the design of high-voltage systems, substations, and utility-scale renewable energy projects
- Experience leading engineering tasks from project kickoff through to design package completion
- Ability to collaborate with civil, structural, SCADA, and protection control engineers to deliver integrated project solutions
- Experience preparing technical documentation including one-line diagrams, studies, specifications, reports, BOMs, proposals, and client-facing deliverables
- Knowledge of industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, and ANSI, and ability to ensure designs meet these standards
- Support project managers with estimating, proposal writing, and client communication
- Participation in interdisciplinary reviews and QA/QC efforts across engineering teams
- Ability to conduct electrical studies such as short circuit, load flow, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonics, and arc flash analysis
- Experience drafting interconnection studies and evaluating compliance with utility or ISO requirements
- Ability to translate technical findings into clear client-facing reports
- Willingness to occasionally travel less than 20% for field walkdowns, client meetings, or construction support
