Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will design and support high-voltage power systems, substations, and renewable energy projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The role involves technical analysis, documentation, project management, and occasional fieldwork within the renewable energy and power delivery sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Design high-voltage systems, substations, and renewable energy power systems using electrical engineering principles.
- Lead engineering tasks from project initiation to completion of design packages.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Prepare technical documentation including one-line diagrams, studies, specifications, reports, BOMs, and client deliverables.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, and ANSI.
- Support project management with estimating, proposal writing, and client communication.
- Conduct interdisciplinary reviews and quality assurance/quality control across engineering teams.
- Perform electrical studies including short circuit, load flow, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonics, and arc flash analyses.
- Develop relay settings, perform arc flash and coordination studies, and interface with SCADA systems and vendors.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering ABET Accredited
- 5 to 10 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus in power systems, renewable energy, or substations
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Office, and at least one power system analysis software such as ETAP, CYMCAP, PSS E, SKM, ASPEN, PSCAD, or EMTP
- Ability to apply core electrical engineering principles to the design of high-voltage systems, substations, and utility-scale renewable energy projects
- Experience leading engineering tasks from project kickoff through to design package completion
- Experience preparing technical documentation including one-line diagrams, studies, specifications, reports, BOMs, proposals, and client-facing deliverables
- Knowledge of industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, and ANSI, and ability to ensure designs meet these standards
- Ability to support project managers with estimating, proposal writing, and client communication
- Experience conducting electrical studies such as short circuit, load flow, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonics, and arc flash
- Ability to develop relay settings and perform arc flash and coordination studies
- Experience interfacing with SCADA RTAC systems and vendors for major equipment submittals
- Ability to conduct battery sizing, voltage drop, and conduit fill calculations
- Experience drafting interconnection studies and evaluating compliance with utility or ISO requirements
- Willingness to occasionally travel less than 20% for field walkdowns, client meetings, or construction support
