Job Description

The Electrical Designer Coordinator at Atwell supports project teams by designing overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities, addressing engineering challenges, and collaborating with utilities and developers to ensure precise and effective electrical infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities.
  • Support project teams with engineering design work for electrical distribution projects.
  • Address engineering challenges across various projects, including system improvements and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Collaborate with electric utilities and private developers on project execution.
  • Verify as-built conditions in GIS and correct discrepancies in engineering submissions.
  • Apply problem-solving skills to large utility client projects.
  • Utilize engineering software for distribution design and analysis.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in one of the following engineering software applications: MicroStation, AutoCAD, and GIS is required.
  • Knowledge of NESC, ArcFm GIS, SAP, and Work Manager Software for overhead and underground distribution projects.
  • Experience working on distribution, transmission, system improvement projects, substation design, service design, and switch replacements.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in electrical distribution or related fields is preferred.
  • Ability to apply problem-solving abilities for large utility clients and utilize engineering software packages for distribution design.
  • Strong math and engineering skills, including structural analysis, sag analysis, basic algebra, and geometry.
  • Understanding and adherence to the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and client requirements.
  • Experience with designing overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities, including system improvement pole locations, substation design, and service design.
  • Experience with replacing underground feeders, including identifying splicing, installing padmounts, secondary enclosures, and switch gears, and designing overhead to underground transitions.
  • Experience collaborating with electric utilities and private developers on diverse projects of varying sizes and scopes.
  • Ability to verify as-built conditions in GIS AUD and correct discrepancies with field data as part of engineering submissions.
