Job Description
The Associate Director at Atwell is a leadership role responsible for managing survey teams focused on land development or renewable energy projects, overseeing business operations, fostering client relationships, driving strategic growth, and ensuring operational excellence within a dynamic consulting, engineering, and construction services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and manage business relationships with clients, land developers, general contractors, and architects
- Manage team operations, including setting objectives, fostering growth, and ensuring operational excellence
- Develop and execute business development strategies to expand current clients and identify new opportunities
- Oversee financial performance of the group, including team utilization, profitability, and invoicing
- Support project management activities such as AR collections, change order submissions, and project profitability analysis
- Conduct risk management through contract review, proposal review, and licensing compliance
- Manage subcontractor invoices and ensure project deadlines and commitments are met
- Lead staff recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and foster a culture of excellence
- Maintain internal and external communication with leadership, team members, and industry organizations
- Ensure health and safety standards are upheld and communicate safety concerns
Requirements
- Survey-focused Bachelor’s Degree
- Professional Survey License required or in process
- At least 5 years of experience leading survey teams focused on Land Development or Renewable Energy
- Ability to establish and manage business relationships with colleagues and clients
- Experience managing business operations for a team per client guidelines
- Ability to foster current staff by assisting with yearly targets and annual business planning
- Capability to define department objectives through collaboration
- Experience encouraging strategic growth of the team by creating a business development strategy across the region, including expanding current clients, identifying new potential clients, and fostering long-term relationships
- Ability to maintain memberships with local residential and commercial organizations to expand the reputation of the group and organization
- Established relationships with land developers, general contractors, and architects to identify and win projects
- Experience managing financial goals of the group, including team utilization, invoice ratio, multipliers, and profitability
- Ability to assist Project Managers with AR collections, effort vs contract value, project profitability, change order submission, and monthly invoicing
- Experience with risk management contract review, proposal review, licensing review, and managing invoices for subcontractors as needed
- Ability to ensure deadlines and commitments are fulfilled
- Experience creating and maintaining current company standards per client request
- Research and implement technology improvements
- Ensure operational excellence and a repeatable process for deliverables
- Strong communication skills to lead from the front and maintain open communication with all team members
- Experience managing staff, including onboarding new staff and creating a culture of excellence
- Ability to communicate performance issues to HR, Senior Leadership, and individuals for documentation and employee termination once approved by HR
- Awareness of and ability to communicate health and safety standards, and stay updated on industry standards
- Willingness to communicate potential safety issues with Safety staff
- Physical and mental ability to lead survey teams in land development or renewable energy projects
- Market awareness to negotiate a full compensation package and stay competitive in the market
Benefits & Perks
Compensation range: $120,000 - $160,000 USD
