Job Description
The Energy Analyst position involves applying quantitative modeling, market analysis, and strategic planning to support energy sector clients in making informed decisions about power supply, risk management, and resource planning within the evolving electric grid.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide modeling and analysis for clients including utilities, developers, IPPs, large energy consumers, and government agencies
- Troubleshoot and validate model outputs
- Perform quantitative analysis considering technical, economic, market, and regulatory factors
- Offer expertise in risk management, asset valuation, and resource planning through effective communication of results and modeling approaches
- Create reports, visualizations, and presentations to synthesize complex information
- Manage projects to ensure timely completion
- Utilize analytical tools such as Excel, Python, or R for data analysis
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as economics or engineering, with evidence of strong academic performance
- Master's or other advanced degree in a highly quantitative field is preferred
- At least 2 years of prior work experience for the Energy Analyst position
- At least 5 years of prior work experience in energy for a Senior Analyst position, with a focus on energy, in a utility, consulting firm, government, or non-profit
- Wholesale energy market experience ideally with a utility, energy project developer, or independent power producer (IPP) is highly preferred
- Strong quantitative analytical skills, including the use of Excel and the ability to learn or use coding in software packages such as SAS, Python, or R
- Ability to perform modeling and analysis for clients including utilities, developers, IPPs, large energy consumers, and government agencies
- Ability to troubleshoot and validate model outputs
- Ability to perform quantitative analysis combining technical considerations, economic factors, market rules, and regulatory policy developments
- Ability to communicate results and modeling approaches effectively to clients
- Ability to synthesize complex information into understandable reports, visualizations, and presentations
- Ability to take ownership of projects and ensure timely completion
- Proficiency in leveraging analytical tools using Excel, Python, or R for analysis
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as needed to achieve objectives
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and problem-solve with minimum supervision
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Benefits & Perks
Compensation: 80,000 - 95,000 USD for Energy Analyst, 95,000 - 125,000 USD for Senior Analyst, negotiable based on qualifications and experience
