Job Description
A Data Scientist at Ascend Analytics will develop and optimize energy market modeling solutions to support renewable energy and battery storage decision-making, utilizing advanced machine learning techniques and statistical methods in Python to enhance energy forecasting and grid management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, evaluate, automate, optimize, and monitor performance of new data science models and algorithms
- Experiment with different data science modeling approaches such as deep learning, regression, boosting, and trees
- Research state-of-the-art modeling techniques applicable to energy forecasting problems
- Create new model features in collaboration with subject matter experts
- Optimize and enhance the computational efficiency of algorithms and software
- Develop prototype models and production software
- Support existing commercial software and production systems
- Implement algorithms related to statistics, finance, stochastic search, and energy system simulations
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Power Systems, or related discipline
- At least 1 year of industry or academic experience in the field of data science, machine learning, or related areas
- Experience in Python programming and relevant libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, SciPy
- Knowledge of time series modeling and advanced statistics
- Ability to develop, evaluate, automate, optimize, and monitor performance of new data science models and algorithms
- Experience experimenting with different data science modeling approaches such as deep learning, regression, boosting, and trees in Python
- Ability to research and apply state-of-the-art modeling techniques applicable to energy forecasting problems
- Ability to develop new model features in coordination with subject matter experts
- Ability to optimize and enhance the computational efficiency of algorithms and software design
- Experience developing both prototype models and production software
- Experience supporting existing commercial software and production systems
- Knowledge of algorithms in statistics and finance applications, stochastic search, simulating high penetrations of wind and solar energy, optimizing generation under uncertainty, and planning and control of electric battery storage
- Strong communication skills to convey findings verbally and in writing with impact and confidence
- Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, and work ethic
Benefits & Perks
Compensation: 80,000 - 130,000 USD, negotiable based on qualifications and experience
