Job Description
A Meteorologist at AlertMedia monitors and analyzes global weather events and natural hazards, providing timely alerts and assessments to support emergency communication and business continuity for a worldwide client base in a 24/7 operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor global weather conditions and natural hazards using forecast models, satellite imagery, surface observations, and official sources.
- Identify high-impact weather events and natural disasters affecting the company's global customer base.
- Produce and disseminate timely alerts and assessments regarding weather threats and hazards.
- Investigate and validate impacts from weather and hazards, including infrastructure damage and disruptions, using forecasting tools and open-source intelligence.
- Collaborate with Global Intelligence Analysts to maintain real-time situational awareness during major events.
- Support customer-facing communications through briefings, situation reports, webinars, and responses to inquiries.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
- 2 to 3 years of professional forecasting experience, preferably in the private weather sector or another fast-paced, decision-driven environment.
- Strong forecasting skills with the ability to clearly communicate threats in plain language.
- Ability to monitor multiple regions while maintaining keen attention to detail.
- Familiarity with forecasting tools and eagerness to analyze global weather data sourced from diverse news and open-source channels.
- Experience monitoring high-impact weather and natural hazards on a global scale and proactively communicating risks before, during, and after significant events.
- Ability to identify high-impact weather events and natural disasters that may affect AlertMedia’s global customer base, prioritizing threats across multiple regions in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Ability to produce and disseminate timely, high-urgency alerts and assessments that clearly communicate potential impacts to people, operations, and business continuity.
- Experience investigating and validating real-world impacts from weather and other hazards—including wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic activity—using professional forecasting tools, open-source intelligence, and social media to confirm evacuations, infrastructure damage, power outages, and transportation disruptions.
- Ability to collaborate closely with Global Intelligence Analysts to guide impact collection and maintain real-time situational awareness before, during, and after major events.
- Willingness to flex hours as necessary based on the needs of the business.
- Excellent writing and real-time news gathering abilities.
- Composure under pressure in a fast-paced workflow.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Comfortable contributing to customer-facing briefings and presentations, including webinars with live Q&A, and creating written and digital forecast or hazard content such as alerts, assessments, short-form videos, or podcasts.
