  • Lead the decomposition of monolithic systems into maintainable, deployable services with a migration strategy.
  • Design scalable, change-absorbing system architectures that evolve with requirements.
  • Drive high-leverage technical decisions on data modeling, API contracts, service boundaries, and infrastructure.
  • Identify and address architectural drift and technical debt to ensure stable delivery.
  • Set and maintain standards for testing, observability, and deployment processes.
  • Conduct code and design reviews to improve team’s technical quality.
  • Collaborate with management to align technical investments with product priorities.
  • Write production code, prototype solutions, and stay hands-on to maintain credibility.
  • Model effective use of AI tools to enhance team productivity and decision-making.

Requirements

  • 7 years of professional software development experience, with a demonstrated progression into technical leadership
  • Deep, hands-on experience in systems design and backend architecture, with the ability to show specific examples of systems designed, tradeoffs made, and how those decisions held up over time
  • Experience designing and operating high-scale, high-availability services systems where latency, throughput, and reliability SLAs are real constraints
  • Meaningful experience with distributed systems service decomposition, inter-service communication, data consistency, and failure isolation
  • Strong object-oriented programming skills
  • C or Java experience is a plus
  • Deep SQL expertise including schema design for scale, query optimization, index strategy, and understanding how database bottlenecks surface at the application level
  • Proven ability to lead technical direction in a collaborative environment, including building alignment on architectural decisions
