Job Description
The Software Engineering Manager oversees a team of full-stack developers working on smart home security systems, managing projects across various technologies, mentoring engineers, and delivering scalable, innovative solutions within a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of 5-7 full-stack software engineers.
- Oversee the development of backend services, websites, and database systems for smart home security ecosystem.
- Coordinate and deliver cross-functional projects across diverse technologies using Agile methodologies.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to team members.
- Set project timelines, prioritize work, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 8 years of professional software development experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience managing a team of developers.
- Strong technical mentorship skills.
- Strong object-oriented programming skills.
- Experience working on backend services, websites, and database design.
- Experience with database design and development.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, principles, and technologies.
- Experience working with physical systems.
- Experience developing scalable service-oriented architectures.
- Fosters a positive, respectful, and inclusive team environment through day-to-day leadership.
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineers and non-engineers alike.
- Experience hiring, developing, and managing a diverse and talented team of engineers.
- Proven track record delivering large-scale, cross-functional projects on time and in a high-quality manner, exploring technical feasibility and prioritization tradeoffs as well as process improvements along the way.
- Comfortable navigating competing priorities and ambiguous situations.
- Ability to communicate clearly, set boundaries, and make decisions under pressure.
- Experience working with full-stack teams and contributing across the stack as needed, with backend leaning preferred.
- Experience with native iOS and Android applications is preferred.
- Experience working on projects involving diverse technologies such as C, .NET, SQL Server, Kafka, Ember.js, and IoT devices.
