Job Description
A full-stack Software Engineer II role focused on developing and maintaining server-side services and APIs, with opportunities to contribute to client platforms such as Android, iOS, or web, in a collaborative environment supporting IoT solutions for property security and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement server-side services and APIs for product features
- Own entire features from scoping through deployment and verification
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code
- Design for edge cases, failure modes, and error conditions
- Contribute to client development on Android, iOS, or web platforms
- Participate in code reviews to improve code quality
- Collaborate across teams to define solutions meeting business and technical needs
- Engage in the full development lifecycle, including monitoring and support
- Bring technical perspective to product decisions
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience
- At least 2 years of professional software development experience
- Strong object-oriented programming fundamentals
- Experience with C or Java is a plus
- Solid experience with SQL databases schema design, query optimization, index strategy, and reading query execution plans
- Comfort with the full development lifecycle including writing tests, deploying safely, monitoring production health, and responding when issues arise
- Curiosity about how the full stack works and genuine interest in following a feature from the server through to the client that delivers it
- Ability to design and implement server-side services and APIs that power features across Alarm.com’s product ecosystem
- Ability to own features completely, including scoping, implementation, testing, deployment, and production verification
- Ability to write clean, well-structured code that other engineers can read and maintain without explanation
- Ability to design for full problem edge cases, failure modes, and error conditions, not just the happy path
- Experience participating in code reviews that meaningfully raise quality
- Ability to collaborate across teams to define solutions that meet both business and technical needs
- Engagement with the full development lifecycle, from early requirements through post-ship monitoring and support
- Willingness to bring perspective to product decisions and think about what is being built, not just how
- Experience with AI tools to improve work and sharing effective practices with the team
- Ability to design and implement features primarily on one client platform (Android, iOS, or web) with exposure to others over time
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $110,000 - $120,000 USD
