Job Description
A Senior Staff Software Engineer in the Platform Team responsible for designing, developing, and supporting large-scale applications and core platform systems, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across teams to drive technological innovation in smart home and data processing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with teams to drive technical discovery, design, and implementation of large-scale applications and platforms
- Mentor and develop engineering team members
- Lead the design of major software components and act as an architect for the platform
- Research, evaluate, and apply new technologies and methodologies to solve complex problems
- Work with product owners and stakeholders to execute strategies and roadmaps
- Support core systems in production, including deployment and on-call support
- Assist in capacity planning for cloud and physical infrastructure
- Advise on database and data processing strategies
- Participate in on-call rotations, deployment, and maintenance activities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience
- At least 10 years of professional software development experience
- Experience leading and/or mentoring other engineers with a proven track record of developing people and solutions that are reusable by other engineers
- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming skills
- Experience with production support and site reliability engineering (SRE) practices
- Extensive observability experience with tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Wavefront, etc., as well as runbook support
- Significant database design and development experience, including SQL Server and cloud database technologies
- Capacity planning experience in both physical and cloud infrastructure environments
- Superior analytical skills with a good problem-solving attitude
- Ability to perform effectively in a team environment
- Independent thinker and problem solver
- Expertise in object-oriented design and software lifecycles
- Experience leading the design of major software components, systems, and features, acting as an architect for the platform team
- Experience developing software for a wide variety of platforms and technologies
- Ability to support core systems in production, including deployment and on-call support
- Ability to work in quick development cycles with evolving requirements and cross-team collaboration
