Job Description
The role involves managing and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server databases across various environments, ensuring high performance, security, and availability, while providing technical guidance and support to engineering teams in a dynamic security solutions company.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage SQL Server databases across multiple environments, including development and production.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain database servers to ensure performance, availability, and security.
- Design and implement multi-site SQL Server Always On solutions.
- Plan and execute automated and manual database maintenance activities.
- Implement monitoring, auditing, backup, and recovery solutions for databases.
- Maintain security and compliance standards related to database infrastructure.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering teams on database deployment best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues such as performance, integrity, migration, and security problems.
- Optimize database performance through tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- Develop and troubleshoot SQL code, including stored procedures, functions, and other database objects.
Requirements
- A B.A. or B.S. or higher-level degree in Computer Science or a similar engineering field.
- 15 years of experience in database implementations and support of Microsoft SQL Server in highly available, highly transactional, and OLAP environments.
- Experience in Database Administration in Microsoft SQL Server 2019, 2022, and 2025.
- Mastery in SQL Server AlwaysOn and all other high availability database features.
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, migration issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, and security issues.
- Experience in Performance Tuning and Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler, and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, storage, and other resource contention issues.
- Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, Dynamic Management Views, Clustering, Database mirroring, auditing, and replication.
- Expert experience in implementing operational automation.
- Strong knowledge of how indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, encryption, patching, and statistics work, including how indexes are stored, created, and managed effectively.
- SQL Development skills to write and troubleshoot SQL code and design stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, and constraints.
- Documentation skills for processes and procedures related to database operations.
- Operational support skills for SQL databases to technical users.
- On-call availability for support and troubleshooting.
