Job Description
A Senior Software Engineer role focused on maintaining, optimizing, and scaling database systems within a cloud and on-premises environment, supporting millions of IoT devices and customers. The position involves collaborating across teams to improve data infrastructure, evaluate new technologies, and contribute to the development of innovative security and IoT solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze metrics from SQL environments to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements
- Assist teams in adopting database best practices and support new feature development
- Plan and develop the overall database roadmap, including on-premises and cloud databases
- Evaluate and propose new data storage technologies and introduce related tooling and practices
- Maintain infrastructure related to database systems
- Research, evaluate, and apply new technologies and methodologies to solve complex problems
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- At least 5 years of equivalent work experience in software development
- Strong object-oriented programming skills such as C++, Java, C#, or Python
- Expertise with SQL databases, including schema application development, optimizations, monitoring, and management
- Experience gathering and analyzing metrics from SQL environments to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements
- Ability to assist teams in adopting database best practices and support the introduction of new features
- Experience in planning overall database roadmaps, working with on-premises and cloud databases, and evaluating new data storage technologies
- Involvement in infrastructure maintenance related to databases
- Research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems
- Willingness to be on call to respond to incidents
- Willingness to support production deployments and maintenance outside of normal business hours
- Strong communication skills and experience working across different departments and with stakeholders
- Exercise good judgment to determine when to work quickly and when to build robust solutions
- Ability to develop solutions considering many use cases since work will be used by multiple business units
- Willingness to collaborate on product development and contribute ideas
- Other duties as assigned
