Job Description
A Principal Software Engineer at Alarm.com leads the research, development, and design of diverse engineering projects in smart home technology, video analytics, and data processing. The role involves mentoring engineers, collaborating with stakeholders, and owning projects from conception to deployment across multiple technology domains.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee research, development, and design of engineering projects.
- Mentor and lead engineering teams across various experience levels.
- Develop full-stack software for multiple platforms and technologies.
- Provide technical leadership in system and software design.
- Research, evaluate, and apply new technologies to solve engineering challenges.
- Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to define strategies and roadmaps.
- Maintain expertise in system architecture, data flows, and operations processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
- 15 years of professional software development experience
- Experience leading and or mentoring other engineers with a proven track record of developing people and solutions that are reusable by other engineers
- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming skills
- Ability to select new frameworks and architecture designs, educate other teams about them and effect their buy-in
- Significant database design, performance, and development experience
- Superior analytical skills with a problem-solving attitude
- Ability to perform across teams
- Independent thinker and problem solver
- Understanding of UI tech stacks, needs and limitations
- Expertise in object-oriented design and software lifecycles
- Experience working with physical systems and hardware devices (major plus)
