Job Description
A Senior Staff Software Engineer in the Platform Team responsible for designing, developing, and supporting large-scale applications and core platform systems, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across teams to drive technological innovation in smart home and data processing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate within the Platform and Operations teams to design and implement large-scale applications and platforms
- Mentor and develop engineering teams, including junior, senior, and lead engineers
- Lead the design of major software components, systems, and features, acting as an architect for the platform
- Research, evaluate, and apply new technologies and methodologies to solve complex problems
- Work closely with product owners and stakeholders to execute strategies and roadmaps
- Support core systems in production, including deployment, on-call support, and capacity planning
- Advise on database and data processing strategies
- Participate in on-call rotations, deployment, and maintenance activities
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
- 10 years of professional software development experience
- Experience leading and or mentoring other engineers with a proven track record of developing people and solutions that are reusable by other engineers
- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming skills
- Experience with production support
- Significant database design and development experience
- Experience with SQL Server or cloud database technologies
- Capacity planning experience in terms of both physical and cloud infrastructure
- Superior analytical skills with a good problem-solving attitude
- Ability to perform in a team environment
- Independent thinker and problem solver
- Expertise in object-oriented design and software lifecycles
- Experience developing software for a wide variety of platforms and technologies
- Experience leading the design of major software components, systems, and features, acting as an architect for the platform team
- Experience engaging in research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems and optimize engineering solutions
- Experience working closely with product owners and business stakeholders to execute strategies and roadmaps
- Experience supporting core systems in production, including deployment and on-call support
- Experience assisting in capacity planning for cloud and physical infrastructure
- Experience advising on database and overall data processing strategy
- Experience participating in on-call rotations, deployment, and maintenance windows as needed, working with SRE team
- Knowledge of observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Wavefront, etc., and runbook support
- Ability to communicate effectively and blend multiple business needs in work
- Willingness to work in an environment with quick development cycles and evolving requirements
