Job Description

A Senior Staff Software Engineer in the Platform Team responsible for designing, developing, and supporting large-scale applications and core platform systems, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across teams to drive technological innovation in smart home and data processing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within the Platform and Operations teams to design and implement large-scale applications and platforms
  • Mentor and develop engineering teams, including junior, senior, and lead engineers
  • Lead the design of major software components, systems, and features, acting as an architect for the platform
  • Research, evaluate, and apply new technologies and methodologies to solve complex problems
  • Work closely with product owners and stakeholders to execute strategies and roadmaps
  • Support core systems in production, including deployment, on-call support, and capacity planning
  • Advise on database and data processing strategies
  • Participate in on-call rotations, deployment, and maintenance activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 10 years of professional software development experience
  • Experience leading and or mentoring other engineers with a proven track record of developing people and solutions that are reusable by other engineers
  • Proven expertise in object-oriented programming skills
  • Experience with production support
  • Significant database design and development experience
  • Experience with SQL Server or cloud database technologies
  • Capacity planning experience in terms of both physical and cloud infrastructure
  • Superior analytical skills with a good problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to perform in a team environment
  • Independent thinker and problem solver
  • Expertise in object-oriented design and software lifecycles
  • Experience developing software for a wide variety of platforms and technologies
  • Experience leading the design of major software components, systems, and features, acting as an architect for the platform team
  • Experience engaging in research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems and optimize engineering solutions
  • Experience working closely with product owners and business stakeholders to execute strategies and roadmaps
  • Experience supporting core systems in production, including deployment and on-call support
  • Experience assisting in capacity planning for cloud and physical infrastructure
  • Experience advising on database and overall data processing strategy
  • Experience participating in on-call rotations, deployment, and maintenance windows as needed, working with SRE team
  • Knowledge of observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Wavefront, etc., and runbook support
  • Ability to communicate effectively and blend multiple business needs in work
  • Willingness to work in an environment with quick development cycles and evolving requirements
