Job Description
A Principal Software Engineer at Alarm.com leads the research, development, and design of diverse engineering projects across multiple technology domains, mentoring teams, driving innovation, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver scalable and effective solutions in the smart home and IoT space.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee research, development, and design of engineering projects.
- Mentor and lead engineering teams across multiple levels.
- Develop full-stack software for various platforms and technologies.
- Provide technical leadership in system design and major software components.
- Research, evaluate, and apply new technologies to solve complex problems.
- Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to define strategies and roadmaps.
- Ensure system architecture, functionality, and data flows meet project needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
- 15 years of professional software development experience
- Experience leading and or mentoring other engineers with a proven track record of developing people and solutions that are reusable by other engineers
- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming skills
- Ability to select new frameworks and architecture designs, educate other teams about them and effect their buy-in
- Significant database design, performance, and development experience
- Superior analytical skills with a problem-solving attitude
- Ability to perform across teams
- Independent thinker and problem solver
- Understanding of UI tech stacks, needs and limitations
- Expertise in object-oriented design and software lifecycles
- Experience working with physical systems and hardware devices (major plus)
