Job Description
The Principal Network Security Engineer manages and secures the organization's Cisco-based network infrastructure, leading configuration, monitoring, and security operations across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments, while providing technical guidance and ensuring compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, configure, monitor, and optimize Cisco networking infrastructure including firewalls, identity, and analytics platforms.
- Perform routine software, firmware upgrades, patching, and configuration updates on network and security appliances.
- Configure and enforce network access controls to ensure secure network segmentation and remote access.
- Deploy, configure, and tune perimeter security and detection tools to enforce security policies.
- Oversee application delivery and web application security, including WAF configuration and incident response.
- Monitor network telemetry for security events and respond to incidents across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Support threat protection systems, including DDoS mitigation, and report suspicious activities.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to design and implement secure, compliant architectures.
- Participate in vulnerability management, remediating exposures across platforms.
- Analyze security events and logs to improve detection capabilities and support security operations.
- Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational standards for network security processes.
- Automate network and security processes using scripting and modern automation tools.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship on security best practices and platform operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience with enterprise networking and security, with significant hands-on Cisco platform management.
- Strong understanding of network firewalls, perimeter defense, and intrusion detection prevention.
- Direct experience configuring and troubleshooting network access control systems and policies.
- Familiarity with cloud platform security fundamentals AWS, Azure, or GCP in hybrid enterprise environments.
- Practical knowledge of software, firmware, and patch management for large-scale infrastructure.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting layer 2 and 3 networking, VPNs, and secure remote access solutions.
- Experience with application delivery controllers and web application security.
- Ability to analyze network endpoint telemetry and investigate security events or performance issues.
- Demonstrated skills using scripting or automation to streamline network security management.
- Hands-on experience supporting vulnerability management and compliance requirements.
- High attention to detail, documentation, and change management practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
