Job Description

A Senior Legal Associate supporting the development, construction, and operation of large-scale battery energy storage projects by managing legal agreements, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and stakeholder relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Lead legal and strategic support for key FID-stage projects
Negotiate and manage complex project and finance agreements including offtake, connection, equipment supply, land, and finance documents
Support project financing through review and negotiation of tripartite agreements and finance instruments
Ensure legal compliance and manage legal approvals and budgets throughout project delivery
Coordinate stakeholder relationships and legal workflows to meet project milestones
Identify, allocate, and mitigate legal risks across all project phases
Interpret and apply complex regulatory frameworks to project structures and operational decisions
Embed legal governance frameworks into project and corporate workflows

Requirements

Experience in structuring complex project and finance agreements such as EPC, OEM, offtake, and tripartite agreements that balance legal risk, commercial outcomes, and strategic goals.
Ability to identify, allocate, and mitigate legal risks across all phases of a project from development through to operations.
Experience in executing legal components of project finance transactions, including lender negotiations, due diligence, and alignment of finance instruments with project documentation.
Ability to interpret complex regulatory frameworks and apply them to project structures, operational decisions, and compliance strategies across multiple jurisdictions.
Experience in embedding legal governance frameworks into project and corporate workflows, ensuring alignment with internal approvals and external obligations.
Proven ability to lead and negotiate high-value project and finance agreements for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects through to execution.
Experience in supporting project financing by reviewing and negotiating tripartite agreements and finance instruments, providing legal input on due diligence and lender requests, and ensuring alignment with project and business objectives.
Capability to manage legal approvals and budgets in line with the company's governance framework, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations throughout project delivery.
Experience in coordinating stakeholder relationships and legal workflows to support key project milestones, ensuring timely and aligned legal inputs.
Strong technical expertise in guiding legal processes and providing practical advice across development, construction, and operations phases.
Excellent negotiation skills for complex, high-value project and finance agreements.
Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory frameworks relevant to energy projects across different jurisdictions.
Experience working closely with internal teams and external contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
Educational background or professional qualification in law (implied by the legal associate role).
