Job Description
The Design Engineer at 1st Avenue Power will lead the development, validation, and certification of innovative solar PV systems, overseeing design processes and ensuring compliance to deliver reliable and cost-effective clean energy solutions for large-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and apply structural product load requirements based on data interpretation.
- Provide structural engineering support and serve as a technical resource for internal projects.
- Support full product development lifecycle, including design, prototyping, and iterative improvements.
- Create CAD designs, drafts, and optimize site layouts and electrical schematics for utility-scale PV projects.
- Conduct testing, validation, and troubleshooting in lab, field, and performance environments.
- Assist with sourcing, procurement, and certification documentation to ensure compliance.
- Perform site-specific design tasks and collaborate with cross-functional teams across development, finance, procurement, and EPC.
- Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and certification practices, including UL-2703.
- Conduct field testing on construction sites and produce testing reports.
Requirements
- Current California Structural Civil Professional Engineer (PE) license with an active stamp.
- Proficient in AutoCAD with the ability to create site layouts, plans, and detailed design drawings.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams.
- Support full product development lifecycle, including design cycles, prototyping, and iterative design improvements.
- Define and apply structural product load requirements, including data interpretation from wind tunnel testing.
- Provide structural engineering support or act as a technical resource for internal projects.
- Support testing, validation, and certification of solar PV systems and related products, including field testing and troubleshooting.
- Prepare preliminary and detailed site layouts, system designs, and electrical schematics for utility-scale PV projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across development, finance, procurement, and EPC.
- Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and certification practices including UL-2703.
- Perform product load testing and produce testing reports as needed.
- Perform field testing on construction sites.
- Support sourcing and procurement activities related to engineering components.
- Perform other engineering-related tasks as assigned.
- Willingness to travel 5-15% to sites as needed.
- Compensation expectations within the range of $120,000 to $145,000 USD annually.
