Job Description
The Commercial Transactions Counsel at 1st Avenue Power will provide legal support for renewable energy projects, including contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, and project acquisitions, helping to advance the company's mission of delivering clean, reliable, and equitable energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts including EPC, supply agreements, PPA, and permitting documents
- Provide legal support for renewable energy project acquisitions
- Collaborate with internal teams to assess and manage legal risks
- Support business development with customer agreements and strategic transactions
- Monitor energy regulations and develop compliance policies and procedures
- Create legal processes, templates, and risk review frameworks
- Partner with outside counsel on legal matters
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, preferably California
- Minimum of 5 years of legal experience, with at least 2 years of in-house counsel experience in the renewable energy, energy infrastructure, or clean tech sectors
- Experience drafting and negotiating supplier agreements in the renewables space, including EPC contracts, solar equipment supply agreements (PV, BESS, power electronics), power purchase agreements, and permitting or interconnection documentation
- Ability to advise on the interpretation of such documents orally and in writing
- Excellent drafting, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with cross-functional teams
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team
