Job Description

Akaysha Energy is seeking a senior lawyer to lead legal support for its global portfolio of renewable energy projects, overseeing project agreements from origination to operations while managing a team of legal associates. The role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documentation, ensuring compliance with corporate governance, and collaborating with various stakeholders to mitigate legal risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead legal support for project agreements across the complete life cycle of projects.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate project documentation including term sheets, MOUs, and agreements.
  • Supervise and mentor Senior Legal Associates, Legal Associates, and Paralegals.
  • Create templates, tools, procedures, and risk frameworks for project agreements.
  • Manage external counsel to ensure timely and quality deliverables.
  • Implement and enhance the Enterprise Risk and Compliance Management Framework.
  • Advise on regulatory matters and collaborate with compliance teams.
  • Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies for projects.
  • Ensure governance approvals for project agreements and contract execution.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 8 years of post-admission experience (PAE) as a lawyer.
  • Solid transactional and commercial contracting background across a range of commercial contracts, ideally with specialist training in EPC construction contracts and/or other energy contract documents.
  • Experience in supporting projects that are subject to non-recourse project finance.
  • Strong drafting experience with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in supervision and delegation of legal work, ideally with prior managerial experience.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage timing expectations, and project manage a high volume of work, including transactional processes across different projects and other workstreams, within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to collect, analyse, and interpret complex commercial and technical information.
  • Ability to anticipate legal issues and develop proactive solutions.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
  • Real interest in and passion for the energy transition.
  • Must be an Australian citizen, hold permanent residency status, or have existing Australian working rights.
