Job Description

The role involves fabricating and assembling wooden crates and boxes for shipping large or odd-shaped products, using various woodworking tools and equipment, inspecting and packing items, and ensuring proper labeling and safety procedures are followed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate wooden crates or boxes using hand and powered woodworking tools.
  • Read blueprints, shipping notices, and specifications to determine container size, materials, supports, and braces.
  • Lay out dimensions on materials and cut to size with saws.
  • Assemble crate components using nailing/stapling machines, screws, bolts, glue, and hand tools.
  • Place products into crates manually or with hoists, and secure them with bolts, padding, and banding.
  • Build crates around large or odd-shaped items and attach identification labels.
  • Repair broken crates as needed.
  • Move crates and supplies to shipping areas using industrial trucks or equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read tape measure.
  • Experience with electrical saws such as Panel saw, Jigsaw, and Miter saw.
  • Experience with pneumatic nail and staple guns.
  • Forklift experience.
  • Overhead crane experience.
  • Able to lift over 50 pounds.
  • Good teamwork skills.
  • Framing experience can be applied; this position is suitable for skilled carpenters and cabinet makers.
  • Must be able to go up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to operate a computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
  • Must not present a risk of injury to self or others while engaged in company duties.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
