Job Description
The Controls Designer Drafter is responsible for designing, drafting, and developing electrical instrumentation and control system packages for combustion systems, collaborating with engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, layout, and prepare drafting packages for combustion control systems with an emphasis on electrical instrumentation.
- Develop combustion system drawings using AutoCAD, including wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, PLC layouts, and panel layouts.
- Coordinate with Controls Engineers and Project Engineers on equipment selection, system design, and scheduling.
- Confirm equipment selection, design, and operation based on customer orders and internal quotes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and specifications in system design and documentation.
- Participate in turnover meetings and facilitate communication between engineering teams and customers.
- Manage scheduling and delivery of control system packages for engineering review.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor degree in an Engineering or Technology field related to Instrumentation, Electrical, MET, Inst. Tech or equivalent experience as justified.
- Minimum of 2 years of design and/or drafting experience with electrical systems, instrumentation, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
- Experience in electrical design installation, including familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers, Power Distribution, Relay Logic, and Instrumentation Selection such as transmitters and meters.
- Knowledge of Voltages ranging from 12VDC up to 480VAC.
- Familiarity with local and federal codes, regulations, and specifications, including NRTL applications such as UL, cUL, CSA, and NFPA; application experience is a plus.
- Understanding of standard wiring practices and installation methods in both unclassified and classified areas.
- Proficiency in standard personal computer skills and professional correspondence.
- Ability to confirm equipment selection, design, and operation as quoted and sold to the customer.
- Ability to coordinate with internal engineering teams on equipment and component selection for combustion control system design.
- Ability to utilize AutoCAD to develop combustion system drafting packages including electrical wiring design, ladder diagrams, PLC layout, panel layout, overall schematic design, and Bill of Materials.
- Ability to apply relevant codes, standards, and specifications as required.
- Ability to interact with Controls Engineers, Controls Engineering Manager, and Project Engineers on system design, scheduling, and clarifications with customers.
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner both inside and outside the workplace.
