Job Description

The Design Drafter at Zeeco Connecticut is responsible for developing complex 3D mechanical designs, creating detailed fabrication drawings, mentoring junior drafters, and collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate, manufacturable, and high-quality design deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complex 3D mechanical equipment and assemblies based on specifications and project requirements.
  • Create, review, and approve detailed fabrication drawings, including assemblies and component details.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, fit-up verification, and design checks to ensure functionality and manufacturability.
  • Lead and coordinate drafting activities across multiple projects to ensure schedule and quality standards are met.
  • Mentor and review work of junior drafters, providing technical guidance and feedback.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project teams to resolve design issues and incorporate changes.
  • Support shop and field personnel with design clarification, fabrication support, and site visits for installation verification.

Requirements

  • Associate s Degree in Drafting, Design Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of drafting design experience in a mechanical or industrial environment.
  • Experience in the Boiler or Burner industry is required.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault required.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, fabrication methods, and industry standards.
  • Proven ability to check and approve drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
  • Experience with preparing and checking detailed drawings, including assemblies, subassemblies, layouts, and intricate component details.
  • Ability to interpret complex mechanical specifications and project requirements to design equipment and assemblies optimized for performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Ability to perform advanced tolerance analysis, fit-up verification, and design checks to ensure functionality and ease of fabrication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PDF markup tools such as Foxit and Bluebeam.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Up to 20 travel may be required for project and shop support.
