Job Description

A Controls Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and commissioning control systems for industrial applications such as FGRU, VRU, VCU, and Biogas, with opportunities to lead projects from concept to startup and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the electrical and controls scope for projects from design through commissioning
  • Develop control system designs including electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and interconnection drawings
  • Create control panel layouts, specifications, bills of material, and instrument data sheets
  • Create controls narratives, cause effect diagrams, and PLC HMI programs
  • Review project scope and resolve gaps or ambiguities proactively
  • Support field activities such as startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service
  • Collaborate with engineering, sales, and field teams to deliver high-quality systems
  • Assist with proposals, estimates, and technical documentation
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (CSA, NEC, NFPA, TSSA)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in controls engineering or industrial automation
  • Experience with electrical and control panel design, including creating schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC HMI programs
  • Experience developing control system designs including Electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and interconnection drawings
  • Experience creating control panel layouts and specifications, Bills of Material (BOMs), and instrument data sheets (IDS)
  • Ability to develop controls narratives, cause effect diagrams, and PLC HMI programs
  • Ability to review project scope and proactively resolve gaps or ambiguities
  • Experience supporting field activities including startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering, sales, and field teams to deliver high-quality systems
  • Experience assisting with proposals, estimates, and technical documentation
  • Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including CSA, NEC, NFPA, and TSSA
  • Working knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, CSA, NEC, and related standards
