Job Description
The Applications Proposals Engineer is responsible for designing, supporting, and providing technical solutions for mechanical systems in the power and combustion industry, including preparing quotations, engaging with customers, and supporting projects throughout their lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and support mechanical systems based on thermodynamics and heat transfer principles
- Analyze system performance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Respond to customer inquiries, select appropriate equipment, and determine sizing and costs
- Develop and prepare formal quotations and cost estimates
- Maintain communication with customers throughout the quotation process
- Visit customer sites to discuss proposals, negotiate solutions, and troubleshoot equipment issues
- Identify and coordinate required drawings for quotations
- Provide documentation and support to the project team throughout the project lifecycle
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field (preferred)
- Experience working independently to design, build, and support mechanical systems driven by thermodynamics, heat transfer, and related principles
- Ability to analyse system performance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Experience providing troubleshooting support for mechanical systems
- Experience responding to customer enquiries, selecting appropriate equipment, determining sizing and cost, and guiding enquiries through to confirmed orders
- Ability to develop cost estimates in line with established guidelines
- Ability to set product pricing using approved markup and commission structures
- Experience preparing, editing, and signing formal quotations
- Proactive communication skills to maintain customer contact throughout the quotation phase
- Willingness to visit customer sites to discuss proposals, negotiate solutions, and troubleshoot equipment issues
- Ability to identify and coordinate required drawings for quotations
- Ability to provide clear handover documentation to the projects team once orders are secured
- Support the project team throughout the project lifecycle
- Familiarity with AutoCAD (advantage, but not mandatory)
- Negotiation experience with both suppliers and customers
- Background in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous experience in a sales environment within the oil and gas industry (advantage)
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities
- Experience in process development
- Full UK driving licence
