Job Description

The Water Wastewater Project Manager oversees the daily operations, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of a municipal water treatment and distribution system, leading a team, managing projects, and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure system efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise daily operations and maintenance of the drinking water treatment and distribution system.
  • Oversee regulatory sampling programs to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Coordinate and communicate with staff, clients, regulators, contractors, and engineering firms.
  • Implement and manage predictive maintenance programs and oversee routine and capital repair projects.
  • Respond to emergency situations, process upsets, equipment failures, and alarm events.
  • Prepare reports for regulators, clients, and the firm.
  • Manage project budget, scope, and schedule, serving as the main point of contact between the client and the firm.

Requirements

  • Serve as the System's Chief Designated Operator and be responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of the operational and maintenance activities of the department's drinking water treatment and distribution system.
  • Oversee a team of 5 staff members and manage the daily operation, maintenance, and compliance of the Adelanto Public Utility Authority systems, including managing all associated regulatory sampling programs in a safe and timely manner.
  • Ensure the system maintains 100% compliance through daily process monitoring and a comprehensive maintenance system.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with operations staff, client representatives, regulators, contractors, and engineering firms to ensure effective system operation and optimization.
  • Implement and manage an innovative predictive maintenance management program.
  • Administer and implement all routine and capital repair and replacement projects.
  • Respond to emergency situations, process upsets, equipment failures, force majeure events, alarm events, and work in inclement weather as needed.
  • Prepare reports regularly for regulators, clients, and the firm.
  • Manage the project budget, scope, and schedule of contractual obligations.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between the client and the firm.
  • Work comfortably in a self-directed environment with minimal daily supervision, with supervision provided by an Area Manager.
  • Follow established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures to perform work in a safe and professional manner.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for plant coverage outside normal work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Respond to emergency events and alarm call-outs as scheduled and required.
  • Availability for standby duty and the ability to be on-call, working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Possess relevant education and experience in water treatment and distribution systems (implied, typically a minimum of a relevant degree or equivalent experience in water/wastewater operations).
  • Possess or be able to obtain relevant certifications within the industry (implied, such as Water Treatment Operator Certification, Water Distribution Operator Certification, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrate reliable and dependable attendance as an essential function of the position.
