Job Description
The Wastewater Operator is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and monitoring of a wastewater treatment facility, ensuring compliance with regulations, performing laboratory analyses, and responding to emergency situations to protect water resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the wastewater treatment facility and collection system daily
- Perform process monitoring and laboratory analysis to ensure compliance
- Conduct routine equipment maintenance and general facility upkeep
- Manage sludge thickening processes
- Maintain accurate records of operations and process data
- Respond to emergency situations and work in inclement weather as needed
- Participate in on-call rotation for plant coverage outside normal hours
Requirements
- Possession of a valid wastewater operator certification or license as required by the state of Massachusetts or the relevant regulatory authority.
- Experience operating a wastewater treatment facility, specifically involving daily process monitoring, equipment maintenance, and record keeping, at a facility with a capacity of at least 0.45 MGD (million gallons per day).
- Ability to perform daily rounds, laboratory analysis, process control, sludge thickening, and general maintenance tasks at a wastewater treatment plant.
- Knowledge of safety, operating, and emergency response procedures, and the ability to work in a safe and professional manner following established protocols.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for plant coverage outside normal work hours, including weekends, and respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Availability to work the scheduled hours of Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and work in inclement weather conditions when required.
- Physical ability to work outdoors, perform manual tasks, and work in various weather conditions as part of daily operations and maintenance activities.
