Job Description

The Environmental Compliance Specialist supports the utility's environmental compliance efforts by managing wastewater, stormwater, and pretreatment activities to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations through data management, reporting, inspections, and coordination with operations and regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure wastewater, stormwater, and pretreatment activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage NPDES and MS4 reporting obligations, including preparing DMRs, MORs, and other mandated submittals.
  • Coordinate data collection, sampling schedules, and process control monitoring with operations staff.
  • Conduct facility inspections and verify operational data for compliance purposes.
  • Maintain accurate and organized compliance records using systems like HACH WIMS and Microsoft Teams.
  • Track chemical usage and laboratory supplies related to environmental compliance.
  • Communicate regularly with internal teams, regulators, and clients regarding compliance activities.
  • Support permit compliance, data management, and reporting processes.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in wastewater, stormwater, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ability to support the daily environmental compliance functions of the utility by ensuring all wastewater, stormwater, and pretreatment activities meet Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in managing NPDES and MS4 reporting obligations, preparing DMRs, MORs, and other mandated submittals.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate compliance records using systems such as HACH WIMS and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to coordinate data collection, sampling schedules, and process control monitoring in collaboration with operations staff.
  • Experience in tracking chemical usage and laboratory supplies.
  • Ability to document facility inspections and support environmental programs.
  • Strong communication skills to regularly communicate with internal teams, regulators, and clients.
  • Hands-on experience conducting inspections, verifying operational data, and preparing all required regulatory reports.
  • Capability to provide continuous support to daily compliance-related operations to help ensure the facility meets all federal, state, and local environmental requirements.
  • Deep involvement in the day-to-day execution of environmental compliance activities, including data verification, permit reporting, sampling coordination, and facility inspections.
  • Experience in maintaining organized compliance records and supporting timely submission of all required compliance reports and records.
  • Ability to work closely with internal teams, regulatory agencies, clients, and contractors to ensure all environmental compliance activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors and perform inspections as part of environmental compliance activities.
