Job Description
A Senior Robotics Research Engineer at Toyota Research Institute focuses on developing general-purpose robots capable of performing a wide variety of tasks in complex, unstructured environments by leveraging advances in AI, machine learning, and robotic manipulation to improve human life.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and advance general-purpose robotic manipulation capabilities for diverse, unstructured environments.
- Collect and utilize large-scale datasets of physical interactions to train machine learning models for robot behaviors.
- Design, implement, and improve algorithms for robotic perception, control, and dexterous manipulation tasks.
Requirements
- A motivated engineer with a make it happen mentality who is able to work independently when needed and also works well as part of a larger integrated group at the pioneering of robotics and machine learning.
- Ability to contribute to the development of general-purpose robots capable of operating reliably in complex, unstructured environments and accomplishing a wide variety of tasks in settings like human homes with minimal human supervision.
- Experience or expertise in machine learning techniques relevant to robotics, including learning general-purpose robot behaviors from large-scale datasets of physical interaction.
- Deep, multi-functional expertise across hardware, simulation, perception, controls, and machine learning relevant to robotics research.
- Proven ability to develop fundamental capabilities in robotic manipulation and long-horizon dexterous behaviors, and to improve these over time in diverse, real-world environments.
- Strong research background demonstrated through open-source software contributions and publications in relevant fields.
- Educational background in a relevant technical field such as robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience working on robotics projects that involve physical interaction datasets, machine learning, and robotic manipulation behaviors.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment and contribute to a team focused on technological advancement in robotics.
