A research internship focused on developing algorithms and frameworks for human-aware robot learning and interaction, including robot policy robustness, hierarchical reasoning, and shared autonomy, with opportunities to develop prototypes, run experiments, and contribute to academic publications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop working code prototypes for robot learning and human-robot interaction.
Conduct experiments with simulated and real robots to test policies and models.
Assist in building and maintaining large datasets of robot demonstration data.
Collaborate with team members to analyze data and refine robot policies.
Participate in publishing research findings to peer-reviewed venues.
Requirements
A candidate who is comfortable working with both existing large static datasets as well as helping build and maintain a new corpus of robot data.
Experience in developing working code prototypes related to robot learning, human-robot interaction, or related fields.
Ability to run experiments with both simulated and real physical robots.
Strong understanding of robot learning, human-robot interaction, and multimodal policies.
Experience with data aggregation and simulative approaches towards adaptation of vision-language-action (VLA) models to human-human and human-robot interaction datasets.
Familiarity with developing and implementing hierarchical reasoning frameworks for robot policies that can reason over human and shared task states.
Experience in exploring additional data sources for training human-interactive robot policies, including human-human and synthetic semi-synthetic data.
Ability to develop shared autonomy systems with VLA models to enable more sophisticated fusion between autonomous and manual control, including data collection and runtime decision-making.
A background in machine learning, AI, robotics, or related fields with relevant skills and knowledge.
Availability for a 12-week internship, with the role being a hybrid, in-office position.
Possession of the necessary physical and cognitive abilities to participate in experiments with physical robots (implied by the need to run experiments with real robots).
