The Robotics Intern will work on developing and improving physically-accurate simulation models and algorithms for robotics applications, collaborating with engineers and scientists to advance open-source simulation tools and contribute to scientific publications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop physically-accurate, reliable, and fast models and algorithms for robot simulation.
Collaborate with software engineers and research scientists to enhance simulation tools.
Solve modeling, mathematical, and implementation problems related to robot dynamics and perception.
Translate physical and mathematical phenomena into software models.
Contribute to the development and implementation of new capabilities in the Drake open source software.
Requirements
Currently enrolled in or have completed a degree program in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience working with physics-based simulation software, modeling, or related areas relevant to robotics and simulation tools.
Proficiency in modern C programming language, with experience developing open source software using best practices including extensive unit and validation tests, detailed documentation, and collaborative peer review.
Ability to develop physically-accurate, reliable, and fast models and algorithms relevant to simulation and robotics community.
Strong problem-solving skills to address difficult modeling, mathematical, and implementation challenges with a focus on accuracy of simulation results, and reliability and performance of software.
Capability to distill physical and mathematical phenomena into clear software models and implement them effectively.
Excellent collaboration skills to work with software engineers and research scientists on research projects.
Willingness to contribute to scientific publications and implement new capabilities in open source software, Drake.
Availability to participate in a 12-week summer internship in 2026, with a hybrid in-office work arrangement.
