This internship involves conducting research on generative human modeling within Toyota Research Institute's Human-Centered AI division, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to explore how machine learning models represent human reasoning and decision-making, with the goal of advancing AI technologies that enhance human well-being and align with business impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to investigate how generative machine learning models represent human reasoning and decision-making.
- Research methods to improve alignment of generative human models with human perspectives.
- Contribute to research aimed at publication in top-tier venues.
- Engage in strategy discussions on how research connects to business impact at Toyota.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or enrolled in a PhD program related to machine learning, behavioral sciences, or human-computer interaction.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate how generative machine learning models represent aspects of human reasoning and decision-making.
- Experience in exploring methods for improving alignment of machine learning models with human perspectives.
- Ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of machine learning researchers and behavioral scientists.
- Strong research skills aimed at producing work suitable for publication in a top-tier venue.
- Willingness to engage in strategy discussions about how research connects to business impact at Toyota.
- Availability for a paid 12-week internship during Summer 2026.
- Ability to work in a hybrid in-office role at Toyota Research Institute.
- Availability to work in California-based roles with a pay range of $45 to $65 per hour, depending on individual factors such as experience and skills.
