Job Description

The Maintenance Engineering Manager at Solid Power oversees maintenance operations, automation strategies, and equipment reliability within the manufacturing environment, leading a team of engineers and technicians to ensure optimal performance and safety of production systems in a fast-paced, innovative setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the maintenance engineering team, including performance reviews, task assignments, and team development.
  • Develop, plan, and execute preventive maintenance strategies for manufacturing and engineering equipment.
  • Oversee automation systems, ensuring their performance, reliability, safety, and standardization.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements, and develop multi-year roadmaps for upgrades and lifecycle management.
  • Coordinate with cross-departmental teams to support equipment installation, startup, and maintenance activities.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, including repair, vendor support, and operational expenses.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, promoting EHS principles within maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience (work experience will be substituted for education).
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of maintenance engineering electrical and mechanical experience required.
  • Minimum 7 years of automation experience.
  • Proven experience with Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and/or Mitsubishi PLCs.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities across departments and work with outside departments to deconflict timelines.
  • Work experience in maintenance engineering including electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in developing and executing preventive maintenance plans and work plans for manufacturing and engineering owned equipment and infrastructure.
  • Experience in managing a team of engineers and technicians, including handling yearly reviews, task assignment, and team development.
  • Experience in managing relationships and communication with contractors, including addressing contract, budget, and schedule issues.
  • Experience supporting installation and start-up of new equipment in collaboration with manufacturing engineers and cell production leadership.
  • Experience developing metrics for site maintenance deliverables and equipment uptime within a CMMS system (e.g., Fiix).
  • Experience managing Maintenance Engineering budget, including repair and maintenance, vendor support, and overall OPEX CAPEX.
  • Physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary, including eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
  • Ability to work within a dry, clean-room environment.
  • Ability to perform prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Ability to support and promote EHS principles, including programs such as LOTO, hot work, electrical safety, work at heights.
  • Ability to develop and implement automation strategies, including building multi-year roadmaps for automation systems, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Ability to ensure standardization of automation architectures, programming practices, and documentation.
  • Ability to oversee system integrations across equipment, software, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to support technology transfer documentation as required.
  • Willingness to support continuous improvement methodologies such as TPM, Lean Six Sigma (preferred but not mandatory).

Salary range of $155,000 - $175,000
