A Cell Design Intern at Solid Power will assist in developing next-generation solid-state rechargeable batteries by conducting experiments, characterizing electrode materials, analyzing data, and supporting cell design improvements within a collaborative research environment.
Key Responsibilities
Run experiments at production scale under the guidance of scientists and engineers
Support electrode sheet characterization using techniques such as peel, mandrel, tensile, conductivity, and SEM
Analyze data from electrode sheet characterization and cell testing to inform design iterations
Communicate experimental results and challenges to the team
Adhere to all safety protocols and laboratory regulations
Requirements
Currently pursuing an Engineering, Chemistry, or related degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience in an academic or industrial lab environment.
Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment is required.
Experience in material characterization techniques such as SEM EDS, potentiostats, etc.
Foundation in statistical design of experiments (D.O.E.) with relevant software experience is a plus.
Knowledge of Li-ion battery cell operation, performance, failure modes, testing, and validation is preferred.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
Availability to work 15-20 hours during the Spring and Summer semester.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
Ability to work in gloveboxes and dry rooms.
This position requires access to technology, software, and other information that is subject to governmental access control restrictions, and employment is conditioned on the continued availability of government authorization to access such items.
Employment in this position is contingent upon clear results of a thorough background check.
