The EHS Specialist II supports and manages environmental, health, and safety programs in a chemical battery manufacturing setting, ensuring regulatory compliance, safety training, incident investigation, and safety culture development.
Key Responsibilities
Manage hazardous waste streams in compliance with regulations and serve as authorized signatory on manifests
Administer OSHA respiratory protection program, conduct fit testing, and oversee PPE program including hazard assessments
Inspect and ensure readiness of fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eyewash stations, and emergency showers
Lead root cause investigations of incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions
Support ISO 45001 and OSHA audit readiness through documentation, safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments
Deliver OSHA-required safety training, including HazCom, PPE, HAZWOPER, and new hire safety orientation
Serve as a certified Emergency Response Team member, applying CPR, AED, and advanced lifesaver skills during incidents
Track and report safety metrics such as TRIR, training completion, and 5S scores, integrating them into departmental performance
Manage EHS department purchasing and PPE reimbursement programs, exercising financial discretion and vendor oversight
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Environmental Science, Chemistry, Occupational Safety and Health or a related field, or equivalent work experience with at least 2 years of work experience in the EHS field, with industrial capacity preferred.
Required Certifications including OSHA 8, 24, or 40 Hour HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT; ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or similar certification, which can substitute for 4 years of experience.
Manage hazardous waste streams in compliance with RCRA, DOT, CERCLA, and state regulations and serve as authorized signatory on manifests.
Administer OSHA respiratory protection program, conduct fit testing, and oversee PPE program including hazard assessments and reimbursement systems.
Own inspection and readiness of fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eyewash stations, and emergency showers.
Lead root cause investigations using structured RCA methodology and provide corrective and preventive actions.
Support ISO 45001 and OSHA audit readiness with clause-by-clause documentation, conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Deliver OSHA required training including HazCom, PPE, HAZWOPER refreshers, new hire safety orientation, and First Responder Team (FRT) courses.
Serve as a certified member of the Emergency Response Team and apply Advanced Lifesaver, CPR, and AED certifications during incidents.
Track and report safety metrics such as TRIR, training completion, and 5S scores, and embed safety metrics into departmental performance reviews.
Manage EHS department purchasing and PPE reimbursement programs, exercising financial discretion and vendor oversight.
Perform additional EHS tasks as assigned to support operational discipline and safety culture.
Develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols, perform workplace safety investigations, and ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards.
Possess strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks including OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, and ISO 45001.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
Ability to work successfully as part of a team and independently.
Ability to travel between Louisville and Thornton facilities, with reliable transportation.
Physical ability to wear respirator protection and other PPE as required, and perform routine bending, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
