Job Description

The Controls and Automation Engineer at Sila is responsible for designing, deploying, and improving industrial machine control software and electrical subsystems to support advanced battery manufacturing processes, collaborating across teams to ensure robust and well-documented automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy robust, modular machine control software and electrical subsystems for synthesis tools
  • Architect, develop, and implement software for next-generation synthesis equipment
  • Improve and debug hardware and equipment-driving software across the company
  • Contribute to and enhance internal software libraries used from research to production
  • Develop and document unit tests for machinery and control systems
  • Gather user feedback and implement iterative improvements to control software and hardware

Requirements

  • 5-8 years experience in directly or related field experience.
  • Experience deploying code on systems that interact with the physical world.
  • Experience designing HMIs and writing the underlying code.
  • Experience with high-level, object-oriented programming in C or Python preferred.
  • Experience with revision control software Git preferred.
  • Ability to write Structured Text and familiarity with other IEC 61131-3 languages.
  • Development, testing, and implementation experience of safety programs TwinSAFE preferred.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of field-deployed electronics, sensors, and motion components.
  • Experience with implementation of industrial Fieldbus communication protocols such as EtherCAT, Profinet, EthernetIP, Modbus, etc.
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical design, including wiring diagrams, industrial network architecture, control panel design, power distribution, and protocols for process automation.
  • Experience with unique and challenging industrial electrical safety requirements.
  • Understanding of how to integrate machines with facility business interfaces such as SCADA, MES, ERP, etc.
  • At least a B.S. in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Physical ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
  • Ability to move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts.
  • Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and be stationary for extended periods.
  • Ability to reach low shelves or items on the floor.
  • Ability to enter spaces narrower than 3 feet.
  • Ability to climb stairs or over containment walls.
  • Ability to perform precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, or printer in a fixed location.

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $121,000 to $152,000
