Job Description

The Controls and Electrical Engineer at Sila is responsible for designing, deploying, and improving industrial electrical power systems and machine control software within a manufacturing facility, supporting the development of advanced battery materials to promote clean energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and improve electrical power and communication systems for production units
  • Serve as the primary electrical engineering resource for the facility, focusing on power distribution and safety
  • Maintain, improve, and deploy machine control code, instrumentation, and electrical subsystems
  • Contribute to and enhance software libraries used across research and production units
  • Gather user feedback and implement modifications to electrical systems and control software

Requirements

  • At least a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Ideally 5-7 years experience in directly or related field experience.
  • Experience deploying code on systems that interact with the physical world.
  • Ability to write Structured Text and familiarity with other IEC 61131-3 languages.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of field-deployed electronics, sensors, and motion components.
  • Implementation of industrial Fieldbus communication protocols EtherCAT, Profinet, EthernetIP, Modbus, etc.
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical design, including wiring diagrams, industrial network architecture, control panel design, power distribution, NFPA 70 NEC, 79, and 70E arc flash and protocols for process automation.
  • Experience with unique and challenging industrial electrical safety requirements, including hazardous area knowledge such as Class I, II, Div 1, 2 requirements, and intrinsically safe wiring.
  • Understanding of how to integrate machines with facility business interfaces such as SCADA, MES, ERP, etc.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of document control processes to support the efforts of as-builts documentation accurate across the lifecycle of the tooling and the plant.

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $121,000 to $142,000
Work schedule: Onsite work environment
Work environment perks: Personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes; ability to wear respiratory protection; movement of items up to 50 lbs with lift equipment; ability to move long distances and operate a computer and office equipment
