The Cathode Electrode Engineer is responsible for evaluating and developing cathode materials for high-energy lithium-ion and lithium metal batteries, designing electrode formulations, assembling and testing cells, and analyzing performance to optimize battery performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Locate and evaluate candidate cathode materials for high energy cell design
Lead cathode electrode design to develop optimal electrode formulations
Assemble lithium metal coin and pouch cells and conduct performance testing
Perform electrochemical and material characterization tests to analyze and improve battery performance
Requirements
Locate and evaluate candidate Cathode Materials for high energy cell design, including evaluation and screening of new cathode materials from various suppliers.
Experience in cathode materials development evaluation, specifically with high Ni content NCM series, NCA series, NCMA, LFP, and LFMP.
Lead Cathode Electrode Design to develop optimum electrode formulation to meet design goals.
Develop Cathode Electrode process to meet the design specifications.
Assemble lithium metal coin and pouch cells and conduct testing with a focus on repeatability.
Perform electrochemical tests including current, voltage, CV, impedance, GITT, and cycle life testing, as well as reliability tests to understand and improve performance.
Possess knowledge and test skills of SEM, XRD, particle size determination, and impedance spectroscopy.
Hold a MS degree in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field with focus on electrochemistry, material science, or a related field.
Have knowledge and understanding of lithium ion battery technologies, including cathode material selection and synthesis, electrode fabrication, cell design, cell assembly, testing, and failure mode analysis.
Have experience with testing coin and pouch cells.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and conduct complex experiments employing DOE approach to interpret and correlate experimental results with battery product performance.
Possess good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work as a team player in a multi-functional environment.
