Job Description
The Associate Chemist at SES AI will perform laboratory tasks related to synthetic chemistry, support research and development of lithium-metal batteries, and analyze testing data to identify improvements, working closely with the chemistry team in a lab-based role.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory tasks and carry out chemistry synthesis under supervision
- Adhere to safety, Good Laboratory Practice regulations, and company policies
- Execute Standard Operating Procedures and maintain detailed records
- Use standard laboratory equipment effectively
- Clean glassware and work with moisture-sensitive solvents and chemicals
- Properly dispose of liquid and solid wastes
- Collaborate with the chemistry team to perform and optimize synthetic methods
- Prepare electrolytes and maintain safety and organization of the lab area
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in chemistry or affiliated majors
- Knowledge of chemistry principles and methods with the ability to interpret results and communicate effectively
- Must be able to execute Standard Operating Procedures and keep detailed, organized records and complete the required documentation for the associated tests
- Must be able to effectively use balances, meters, pumps, stir plates, funnels, pipets, burets, heating plates, fume hoods, and other standard laboratory equipment
- Must be able to execute various glassware-cleaning procedures used in the laboratory and work with moisture-sensitive solvents, organic compounds, acids, and bases
- Must understand and execute appropriate disposal of liquid and solid wastes
- Able to perform duties with a respirator on an as-needed basis
- Able to understand basic chemistry in the laboratory
- Work in the chemistry lab closely with chemistry supervisor and perform and optimize established synthetic methods
- Electrolyte preparation, maintain and improve the safety and organization of your designated lab area
- Perform tasks according to work instructions and standard operating procedures
- Experience with synthetic chemistry research is strongly preferred
- Good problem-solving skills, the ability to think out of the box, and follow product development processes
- Strong communication and quantitative skills
- A good team player
