Job Description
The Senior Firmware Engineer eLinux will develop, maintain, and optimize embedded Linux systems for Samsara's connected safety devices, focusing on system stability, hardware integration, and scalability to support millions of IoT devices worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the embedded Linux stack across multiple hardware platforms.
- Lead hardware prototyping, board bring-up, and platform bring-up across various SoCs.
- Develop and maintain the embedded Linux operating system, including build systems, kernel configuration, and systemd services.
- Optimize system power, performance, security, and reliability to meet operational requirements.
- Support high-volume manufacturing by improving system stability and resolving hardware issues.
- Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and ML teams to influence architectural decisions.
- Debug complex cross-stack hardware, kernel, driver, middleware, and application issues.
- Mentor engineering team members and establish engineering and operational standards.
Requirements
- Proficient in Linux development in C, including bootloaders, kernel configuration, device drivers, device tree, and userspace tools.
- Experience with cross-platform development, build tools GNU toolchain, Yocto, buildroot, and Docker containers.
- Experience integrating and adapting Open Source Software to meet project requirements.
- Ability to read schematics and integrated circuit device datasheets for board support package development.
- Experience bringing products through the full software lifecycle - from early prototyping, board bring-up, release to manufacturing, to post-release support.
- At least 6 years of embedded software and/or hardware experience.
- Proactive, self-directed, and good at estimating project scope and timelines.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in embedded software and/or hardware development.
